»» Cesanese Wine Feast in Rome Surrounding

The town of Olevano Romano, 56km from Rome, celebrates its “Cesanese” wine last week of August.

The “Cesanese of Olevano Romano“, is a red wine, with delicate aroma, soft and slightly bitter taste, and ruby red color with tendency to maroon when aged. The varieties include dry still, dry sparkling, and sweet still.

The area where the grapes are grown is the Ciociaria, a pre-Apennine area between Rome and Frosinone characterized by rocky soil and by calcareous clay soil with traces.

- Getting there
By car (from Rome): take the GRA (Gran Raccordo Anulare) to the A1, direction E821. Exit a few minutes later at San Cesareo. Follow San Cesareo signs until you see signs for the SS155. Take SS155 for about 15 minutes, then follow Olevano Romano signs after that.

Wine lovers who are visiting Rome late August can enjoy wine and grape festivals.

Cerveteri

The Etruscan town of Cerveteri celebrates the local grapes and its DOC wine — the ‘Cerveteri‘, on August 26.  

The red Cerveteri is a ruby red wine, dry still or sweet still, with a sapid and harmonious taste and a slightly bitter finish.
The white variety is a golden yellow, dry still or sweet still wine, with a variable taste, from dry to semi-sweet and with a delicate aroma.

By bus: Cerveteri can be reached by COTRAL bus (in Rome bus station: Via Lepanto).
By Car: take either the Via Aurelia (S1) or the Civitavecchia motorway (A12), it is approx. an hour’s drive from Rome.
